Private and Public Schools
If youre like many of my clients, your kids education is a major motivator in your decision to move. This info is really worth considering whether you're thinking about making a move to Toluca Lake, Burbank, Studio City, Valley Village, Hollywood Hills or Greater Los Angeles. You may wish to relocate to take advantage of an excellent public school, for example, Jefferson Elementary in Burbank or Carpenter School in Studio City. Or, you may wish to move closer to your childs private school.
If this describes you, youve probably done lots of research already. In case you are just beginning the school selection process, here are several internet resources Ive found that provide comprehensive information.
To find your LAUSD school: Every L.A. home is within the Los Angeles Unified School District boundaries. To obtain the names, addresses and phone numbers of your homes schools, please visit www.lausd.net and click on the FAQs section from the drop-down menu. From there, youll see the school finder link. Just type in the property address and the elementary, middle school and high school info will pop up (www.lausd.net). You can also call the school locator information line at (213) 241-KIDS (241-5437).
To find your Burbank school, please visit www.burbank.k12.ca.us.
For Glendale, La Crescenta and La Canada schools, please visit GUSD.net.

Note for Studio City, Toluca Lake and Valley Village, June 2010:
I just did a little research on GreatSchools.net regarding public elementary schools in Studio City, Sherman Oaks and Valley Village. We all know that Carpenter is a fantastic elementary school, but my client and I are looking for other schools in areas outside the Carpenter boundaries. GreatSchools.net isn't the be-all and end-all of school research, and some of the schools below have very high APIs even though they didn't rate as high as Carpenter. But anyway, here's what I learned.
Carpenter has a "9" rating.
Rio Vista has a "7."
Dixie Canyon is "8."
Riverside Elementary is "7."
The biggest surprise: Colfax Charter is a "9."
