About Toluca Lake
Toluca Lake has been home to everyone from farmers to movie moguls. The community is quiet and active in maintaining the atmosphere of the beautiful town in the midst of the San Fernando Valley. The area features grand character mansions built in the 1920s and other lovely, custom built homes. In recent years, several condo and townhouse developments have been built here, too. Whether youre looking for a sprawling ranch style home or youre looking for a condo on Riverside Drive, you’re sure to find the home you want with me.
Toluca Lake is an upscale, tranquil community with two very unique features. First, it straddles both the city of Burbank and the city of Los Angeles — and consequently, homeowners have two different providers of city services. (Clybourn Ave. is the dividing line.) Owners of Toluca Lake real estate also have different tax consequences when they sell, depending on which city they live in.
The second unique feature is –yes!– there really is a lake. Completely surrounded by 33 homes and the Lakeside Country Club, and with no public access, the six-acre lake features boating (some homeowners have private boat slips), swimming and fishing.
The town has an enviable location and you may wish to search for your ideal home here. In addition to Burbank and Los Angeles, it borders Universal City and offers quick access to Hollywood from Barham Boulevard. And it’s only about 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. Toluca Lake is surrounded by the culture and history of Southern California. Warner Bros. Studio also borders the town, and Disney and NBC are just a short distance away. There are a myriad of smaller production companies and entertainment industry businesses there as well.
Adjacent parts of Toluca Lake include Toluca Woods which is directly north and slightly east; Toluca Terrace which is north of Toluca Woods, and West Toluca Lake which is west of Cahuenga Boulevard.
The exclusive Lakeside Country Club is just west of Warner Bros. and features an outstanding golf course in addition to other country club amenities. It also provides members and surrounding residents with a fantastic fireworks display on July 4th.
The history of this part of the San Fernando Valley is similar to the rest of Los Angeles. Once part of a Spanish land grant, it was farmland until the 1920’s. The first home was built on Valley Spring Road in the mid-1920s and was later owned by Amelia Earhart. The most famous resident of Toluca Lake was Bob Hope, of course, and his estate is still a landmark. Other celebrity residents have included Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Gene Autry, Goldie Hawn, James Garner, Ron Howard, David Lynch, Denzel Washington, Hilary Duff and Queen Latifah.
Riverside Drive bisects Toluca Lake and features many restaurants (Moes is one of our favorites), mom-and-pop stores, and upscale boutiques. Theres a Starbucks and a Trader Joes on Riverside, too. Another well-known favorite watering hole is Timmy Nolans, an Irish pub with a lively bar scene.
